EDINA, Minn. – Alan Bignall, Chief Executive Officer of ReconRobotics, Inc., has been recognized by the Defense Alliance of Minnesota with its Architect of Defense Award for 2009. The Award is given annually to the individual who best exemplifies and promotes the ideals of the Alliance, which aims to build the defense and homeland security industries within Minnesota. The Award was announced at the Defense Alliance quarterly meeting on May 7.
Bignall joined with the inventors and founded ReconRobotics in 2006 to commercialize robotics technology that was developed at the University of Minnesota Distributed Robotics Laboratory. Since that time the company has added 18 employees, and expanded its product line to include new robot technologies that enhance mobility and reconnaissance capabilities. The company’s miniature, mobile reconnaissance robots are now used by more than 100 police, security and defense agencies worldwide, including the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, and several special forces branches of the U.S. military.
