Andrew Borene

EDINA, Minn. – Alan Bignall, President and Chief Executive Officer of ReconRobotics, announced that Andrew Borene has been named Director of Government and Industry Affairs and Assistant General Counsel. In this newly created position, Borene will be responsible for building the company’s government relations activities and supporting federally funded research and development programs for micro-robot technologies. He will oversee company matters concerning the U.S. Congress, federal agencies, state/local government organizations and international industry organizations within the military and security sectors.

Borene joins ReconRobotics from LexisNexis, where he was a manager supporting large contract programs with U.S. defense and intelligence agencies. Previously, Mr. Borene served as an Associate Deputy General Counsel at the Pentagon. A former U.S. Marine military intelligence officer who served in Iraq, he began his professional career as an investment-banking associate with Wells Fargo & Co.

A native of Edina, Minnesota, Mr. Borene has taught graduate level intelligence policy courses at the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey Institute. He holds a J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School and a B.A. in economics from Macalester College. He is the editor of the American Bar Association’s U.S. Intelligence Community Law Sourcebook.

The company’s line of Recon Scout® Throwbot® devices are used by hundreds of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies and military units, worldwide, to gain real-time video reconnaissance of hostile environments. These robots are distinguished from all other military and law enforcement robots by their small size, rugged durability, versatility and ease of use. For example, the recently introduced Recon Scout XT weighs just 1.2 pounds, and yet it can survive throws of 120 feet and easily move across cluttered indoor environments and landscapes of dirt, sand and rocks. The XT can also be deployed in less than five seconds, and is equipped with an automatic infrared optical system that allows it to see in complete darkness. This Know Before You GoTM capability enables military and law enforcement personnel to gain critical situational awareness before they enter a dangerous environment.

“I am very proud to be joining this amazing team of professionals at ReconRobotics,” says Borene. “Their micro-robots protect the lives of thousands of soldiers and law enforcement personnel each and every day, and I welcome the opportunity to help bring this technology to more users around the world.”
