U.S. Marshals Service Deploys Over 150 ReconRobotics® Micro-Robots

EDINA, MN – November 15, 2017 – ReconRobotics, Inc., the world leader in tactical micro-robot systems, announced today that The U.S. Marshals Service has become the company’s third largest customer.  The U.S. Marshals Service deploys over 150 micro-robots among the tactical and fugitive task force teams in the United States.

The United States Marshals Service is a federal law-enforcement agency within the U.S. Department of Justice. It is the oldest American federal law-enforcement agency and was created by the Judiciary Act of 1789 during the presidency of George Washington as the Office of the United States Marshal.

The organization was an early adopter of ReconRobotics products and has continuously employed the full breadth of micro-robots and accessories throughout our relationship with the organization. Recent purchases include the Recon Scout® XL and the Throwbot® XT.

“For several years, our micro-robot systems have played a key role in protecting the lives of our law enforcement personnel as they conduct high risk operations,” said Mack Traynor, CEO for ReconRobotics. “We are honored that the U.S. Marshals Service selected ReconRobotics to deliver this unique capability to those in law enforcement.”

The Recon Scout® XL and the Throwbot® XT are equipped with an infrared optical system that enables the operator to see in complete darkness along with a sophisticated microphone that can listen in on quiet conversations. Once deployed, both robots can transmit audio and video to a handheld Operator Control Unit. Both robots may be specified in any of three predetermined transmitting frequencies, enabling operators to use up to three robots in the same environment at the same time.

The Recon Scout® XL features a patented two-wheel, single-axle design, plus aggressive wheels and a distinctive stabilizing tail that produce superior obstacle climbing ability and weighs 1.4lbs (.64kg), and can be thrown up to 30 feet (9.1m).

The Throwbot® XT weighs 1.2 pounds (540g) and can be thrown up to 120 feet (36m). When used in tandem with a Recon Scout® SearchStick™ it can also function as a pole camera to facilitate the inspection of attics, rooftops and crawl spaces.

Nearly 5,500 micro-robots are deployed or under contract, worldwide. Further, police and security agencies, including the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the U.S. Marshals, also use Recon Scout® and Throwbot® robots for tactical reconnaissance in high-risk operations, as do many allied military and police forces, worldwide.
