Edina, MN – November 2017 – ReconRobotics, a world leader in tactical, micro-robots is pleased to announce that CBS’ popular series, S.W.A.T., featured the Recon Scout® XL on a recent episode, ‘Imposters,’ to provide reconnaissance on a potential hostage situation.
The Recon Scout XL is a rugged micro-robot that can traverse varied terrain to provide operators with immediate video and audio reconnaissance in high-risk situation. The robot’s wheels can climb over 4 inch (10.2 cm) obstacles, enabling operators to drive it through landscapes of rocks, grass, sand and debris.
The Recon Scout XL weighs only 1.4 pounds (0.64kg) and can survive throws of 30 feet (9.1 m) and drops of 15 feet (4.6m). The robot moves quietly through indoor and outdoor environments while transmitting real-time video and audio to the operator’s handheld Operator Control Unit II (OCU II). This video and audio can be used to locate subjects, determine if they are armed, confirm the presence of hostages, and listen in on conversations and reveal the layout of rooms and the presence of IEDs.
The Recon Scout XL is equipped with an infrared optical system that automatically turns on when the ambient light is low, allowing it to be an effective tactical tool during day or night operations. Further, the robot may be specified in multiple pre-determined transmitting frequencies, enabling tactical units to simultaneously operate multiple robots in the same environment.
