EDINA, Minn. – December 2017 – ReconRobotics, Inc., the world leader in tactical micro-robots and remote sensor systems, announced today that it has passed the 5,500 robots sold mark, making it the second largest producer of military and police robots in the world. Recent sales of Throwbot® XT and Throwbot® 2 micro-robots pushed the company over this significant milestone.
“When the company came on the scene in 2007, all military and police robots were large and complex and were operated only by trained experts,” said Mack Traynor, CEO of ReconRobotics. “The vision was radically different: give warfighters, SWAT operators and law enforcement an incredibly simple, personal system that weighed one pound and allowed them to remotely deploy video, infrared and audio sensors to reveal hidden threats. What we are most proud of is the countless lives these 5,500 deployed systems have saved over the last ten years.”
When deployed, the robot can be directed to quietly move through a structure and transmit real-time video and audio to the handheld Operator Control Unit (OCU). The micro-robot will transmit video and audio through walls, windows and doors up to 100 feet (30m) away from the OCU and is equipped with an infrared optical system that is automatically activated when ambient light is low. These robots may be specified on any of three pre-determined transmitting frequencies, allowing users to deploy and operate up to three robots in the same environment at the same time.
The robot is used to conduct surveillance and search high-risk environments for adversaries, weapons caches and explosives. Teams will use the throw-able micro-robots to quickly gain video and audio reconnaissance during warrant-service operations, hostage rescues, barricaded subject callouts and remote inspections of suspected explosive devices.
Users of the company’s systems include the U.S. military and allied friendly forces, and police and counterterrorism teams, worldwide. Our micro-robots protect these operators by providing immediate situational awareness and greater standoff distance during high-risk operations protecting personnel from hidden threats, enhance mission planning and execution, and minimize collateral damage.
